Japanese Reiki Techniques

Three years ago, before the publication of my first book, the renowned Reiki teacher and author Walter Lübeck predicted that Reiki Fire would rock the Reiki- Boat greatly. At first, he said, it would create an even bigger rift between different parties and then, within a few years it would bring the international Reiki community closer together. And this was one of my reasons for writing on Reiki in the first place: to bring people from all walks of life and from all avenues of the Reiki-world together. That my work should create more distance between Reiki practitioners, made me upset and I did not believe it would happen.

But Walter was right in both instances. Now, in the spring of 1999 the times of fighting are over. The international Reiki movement went through an intense cleansing progress. Now we can start over from a fresh beginning.

In the past two years a lot of us have started sharing our knowledge and our personal insights into Reiki. A lot more information on Dr. Usui’s life and work in Japan has come to the light and more will be coming. Many of us in the West had bee told that Reiki was an "oral tradition". Where this theory originated I have no clue: every president of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai, even Dr. Usui himself gave out handbooks to their students that contain crystal clear instructions as to how and when to use Reiki. Out of these handbooks, and additional information that was given to us by Mr. Ogawa, the leader of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai branch in Shizuoka who passed away last summer, we learned many Japanese Reiki techniques that have so far been unknown in the Western world.

I was recently invited by William Rand to teach these techniques at the International Center For Reiki Training and gladly accepted the invitation. The feedback we received from participants of our seminars in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and in Europe was overwhelming. Reiki practitioners from all different schools converged and learned something new, together in a peaceful, loving environment.

It is my great honor to introduce these techniques to the American Reiki community. I am convinced that many of you will love the simplicity and power of these methods and that you will incorporate them into your daily lives. I will now give a brief description of the techniques for all of you to see if it touches a string in your heart.

On the Fridays we will start with:

* A slide show of the Reiki sites in Japan. We will explore the grave of Dr. Usui in Tokyo and the Kurama temple in Kyoto.

* A talk on Japanese Reiki history and historical facts of Dr. Usui’s life and work.

* Questions and answers.

* A short energy work session.

The Saturday workshop is available to all of you who have learned at least the first Reiki degree. On Saturday and Sunday we will learn the following Japanese Reiki techniques:

* An exercise called Reiki Undo. This exercise was introduced by Mrs. Koyama, the sixth president of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai. It helps us learn to listen to our own body’s needs and activates the bodies inherent self healing abilities.

* A breathing method called Joshin Kokyuu Ho.

This is a breathing technique to strengthen your energy, collect energy in your tanden and learn to let the energy flow out through your hands.

* A meditation called Gassho meditation

A meditation to be practiced in the morning and /or evening, alone or in a group. It does not require any prior knowledge of meditation nor yogic body postures. Anyone of any age can do it.

* A technique called Reiji

This is a powerful prayer to be used prior to starting a treatment.

* A group hands on session called Shu Chu Reiki

This technique is practiced in a group or a Reiki meeting. All group members send energy to one group member wishing and praying for their happiness and health.

* A group energy exercise called Reiki Mawashi

Translated the word mawashi means current. We let the Reiki current flow through the whole group.

* A method called kenyoku

This is a technique to strengthen your energy and disconnect yourself from people, things, situations, thoughts and emotions

* A short energy work session

The Sunday workshop is available only for those of you who have learned at least the first and second Reiki degrees, and have taken part in the Saturday workshop.

* Review of the second degree Reiki Symbols and their origins.

* Healing with your eyes.

* Healing with the breath and the second degree Reiki symbols.

* A method called Byosen, scanning.

* Shu Chu Reiki with the help of the Reiki symbols.

* Enkaku Chiryo, distant healing.

* Only for Reiki masters

A short get together and sharing of the Reiki Master Symbol. It has been our experience that many Reiki Masters have received Master symbols that are unreadable and often do not actually have a meaning.
